HELEM - The Social Experiment
This is a social project produced for HELEM, an LGBTQIA+ NGO advocating for the rights of the community in Beirut, Lebanon. It was done to commemorate IDAHOBIT2021.

A word from the client:
"The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT is a yearly event that we commemorate at Helem. It is a day where we remember that our struggles are connected and intersect through multiple experiences and identities. This year we stand in full solidarity and support with our queer siblings in Palestine, against the discrimination they face as queer people by their local authorities, as well as the ravages of pink-washing and racism they face as Palestinians.
This year we also commemorate the lives we lost in the August 04 blast in Beirut which destroyed our center and nearly destroyed our lives. The events of 2020 have made it clear that it is no longer enough to only demand equality for our bodies and relationships as a distinct community. Our full liberation also hinges on our social and economic rights being protected and respected, and our ability to live, work, learn, and thrive along with all other marginalized communities fighting for the same rights."
اليوم العالمي لمكافحة رهاب المثلية الجنسية والعبور الجندري، (IDAHOBIT) هو حدث سنوي نحييه في حلم. يذكرنا هذا اليوم أن جميع نضالاتنا متقاطعة ومربوطة ببعضها البعض عبر تجارب وهويات متعددة، وأننا رغم التقدم البسيط، لا يزال لدينا طريق طويل أمامنا. لأنه لا يمكن أن يتحرر الجسد من دون أن تتحرر الأرض، نقف اليوم في تضامن كامل مع اخواتنا واخواننا في فلسطين ضد القمع والتهجير والعنصرية التي يواجهونها من قبل سلطات الاحتلال، كما نحي صمودهم/ن ضد التمييز والرفض الذين يواجهونه من قبل سلطاتهم/ن المحلية كأفراد من مجتمع الميم/عين.
اليوم نحيي أيضًا ذكرى الأرواح التي فقدناها في انفجار 4 آب في بيروت الذي دمر مركزنا وكاد أن يدمر حياتنا. فلقد وضّحت أحداث عام 2020 أنه لم يعد يكفينا المطالبة بالمساواة والحرية لأجسادنا وعلاقاتنا فقط، بل أن حريتنا مربوطة بشكل جوهري بحماية حقوقنا الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، وقدرتنا على أن نسكن، ونعمَل، ونتعلَّم ونحصل على الطبابة والضمان الاجتماعي في بلدنا سواسية مع جميع شرائح المجتمع التي نناضل معها.
